2018 Holiday and Events Calendar! (Free download)

When planning your Social Media, do you struggle with what to post? One of the things I hear most often is that trying to think of content is a challenge. If that sounds like you, use our 2018 Holiday and Events Calendar to give you some inspiration!

In my post, What to Say on Social Media, I shared the 3 E’s and 3 Q’s formula to give you some ideas to think about and in my A Beginner’s Social Media Recipe in just 12 Steps blog I gave you a format for a daily theme. Today, I want to talk about using main holiday and events days and also unique and quirky theme/celebration days to boost your social media content.

While you do need to promote your business on social media, I recommend using the 80/20 rule. This means that for every five posts you publish, only one should be directly promoting your business. The others should be a mix of business related, fun or inspirational posts. This type of content demonstrates your general expertise but also gives your audience a chance to get to know you and your business. And, as we all know, people buy from people they know, like and trust!

Using Main Holiday and Events

Using main holiday or events days to theme your promotional activity lets you ride the wave of the general conversation (known as ‘trending’ on Twitter) around an event. The obvious ones are Christmas, Easter, St Valentine’s but also St David’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, St George’s Day, the Winter Olympics or the Winter Paralympics (which are just about to start).

I’m absolutely certain there are going to be a lot of promotional events around Prince Harry’s and Meghan Markle’s wedding on 19 May! (Known in the trade as newsjacking).

Though we’re already partly through this year, we thought you might like a free download of a few of the special holiday and events days happening this year!  Just click on this link or the image below to download your free PDF:

How to Use Quirky, Unique Celebration Days for Marketing

One of the things I discovered when researching the monthly Social Media Planners was the amazing number of quirky, unique, weird and wonderful celebration days there were! These make fun and interesting posts that can be something different from your business, such as National Hug Your Cat Day on 4 June. After all, who can resist a cute cat on social media? Perfect opportunity for a selfie with your cat - lets people see you and shows you love animals!

There are also special days linked to businesses and charities. Here are just a few examples:

  • National Proofreading Day - 8 March
  • Alzheimer’s Society Cupcake Day - 14 June
  • World Wide Web Day - 1 August
  • World Diabetes Day - 14 November

There are lots of specific days for different professions, such as International Accountant’s Day, on 10 November if you’re interested. You need to brainstorm which holidays make sense for your business, your brand and your audience.

Have fun with these and let your personality shine through! Don’t forget we’ve done all the work for you in our Social Media Planners!
