What a wonderful month November is! There are so many events to celebrate such as Remembrance Day, World Kindness Day, Thanksgiving or St. Andrew Day! November is just the best time of the year to be grateful for what we have and who we have in our lives, and celebrate that in style with lots of delicious winter warming foods!

As the usual heavy rains calm down in November, this is perfect for staring into the clear night sky and observing the stars and if we’re lucky, spotting a flying comet!

Fun Facts

In Anglo-Saxon times, November was known as Blotmonaϸ (blood month or sacrifice month).

November is the only month used to represent a letter in the phonetic alphabet.

Although the word November dates back to Old English, the first known use of Novemberish was by Robert Burns in 1793.

According to research published in 2008, serial killers are more likely to be born in November than any other month.

US Presidential elections are held every four years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

The 17th-century astrologer Richard Saunders wrote that: “In this Moneth [November], Melancholy much increaseth.“ He recommended eating eggs and honey and vomiting sometimes!

November is sweet potato awareness month in the USA. In Aljezur, located in Portugal’s Algarve region, a sweet potato festival is held every November.

November was the ninth month of the ancient Roman calendar and has retained its name from the Latin “novem“ meaning “nine.”

You can look up hundreds of fun holidays online to connect with your followers. Just type in ‘special events’ or ‘holiday days’ in your search engine of choice! Be careful to add the year, though, as the date of many of these events changes each year.
